Storing your Stuff

Front compartment on a dory

If you are riding in a dory, you will find ample storage in both the front and rear compartments.  The image on the left shows a number of things beside the storage compartment.  Notice the wood hand rails for support, the bailing buckets, sponge and seat cushions.  The compartment above has room for ammo cans, tennis shoes, and packs.  It is only used by two people.  The lid on the storage compartment locks down with metal clasps and has a rubber ring to keep out water.  The Tivas on the right were my boat shoes.

Camp chairs were supplied by our company and carried on the support boat.

Whether you need extra room in your gray bag or not, this is the best way to pack it in the mornings.

At left is the air mattress.  It also has foam inside and is quite comfortable.  When packing up in the morning, first roll it up toward the open valve and squeeze out as much air as you can then close the valve.

Now, separately, fold your sleeping bag in half (lengthwise) and roll up as tight as you possibly can.  This is the most important part!

Next, unroll the squeezed up air pad and roll it around your tightly rolled sleeping bag.  This is all done on the ground.

You should end out with something that looks like the next image...

The air pad is tightly rolled around your sleeping bag.  You should find that it will easily slide into your gray waterproof sack.  Two people are best for inserting it into the sack.

It will slide right in.

The way not to put this together is to first insert the air pad then stuff the bag into the cylinder that the air pad makes within the stuff sack.  You will not have any extra room if you do it that way!

Not a great picture but looking into the waterproof stuff bag .  You can see a lot of extra room between the rolled up bedding and the bag.  In two bags, we were able to stuff two pair of Ugg boots (one pair shown), one bed sheet, one full size pillow and two towels.  Oh, almost forgot, there is a tarp that goes in these too.  It is folded up and sits nicely on top of the sleeping bag - air mattress.   I don't recommend the uggs unless it is cool at night.

Things come out a lot easier too if packed this way.
